Gig of the Week: 8 August — 14 August 2012
Where: 2 Kolegas
When: Sat 11 Aug, 16:00
How Much: 80RMB
Who: Catcher in the Rye, The Flyx, Discord, Misandao and more (More Info)
Why: This is not just a show, as you can probably tell by the start time. First and foremost, this is a book launch for David O’Dell’s new memoir/history of the punk scene, Inseparable. You might have seen it on sale at the Genjing stands around Beijing, but this is its first foray into the wider world of the music scene. David will be on hand to give a talk, and answer questions, and show of memorabilia. There’s also going to be a charity auction, to benefit Half The Sky children’s orphanage, as well as the bands listed above. It’s going to be an epic day and night on the lawns and inside, so get on over and check it out and support both the punk scene and a good cause.
Also on Saturday night, DJ Shadow returns to Beijing for a set at Yugong Yishan, from 9PM, 280/200RMB. On Friday night at 2 Kolegas, Residence A and The Amazing Insurance Salesmen take the stage with a secret special guest and their adorable new drummer, 10PM, 50RMB. Also on Friday night, Australian singer-songwriter Jamie Hutchings plays Hot Cat Club for free, but if you’re into paying and have plans, check him out tomorrow night at Jianghu Jiuba, 9PM, 40RMB. And finally, on Sunday, XP’s Afternoon Session will easily be a crowd-pleaser, with Mr. Graceless, an awesome new indie rock outfit called Baby Formula, and The Planets, 3PM, 40RMB.
