Gig of the Week: 15 Feb — 21 Feb 2012
Where: Temple
When: Sat 18 Feb, 21:00
How Much: 40RMB
Who: The Barbacans, Perpetual Motion Machine (More Info)
Why: This Town Touring has brought some awesome acts to Beijing before, including The Vasco Era, Die Die Die, The On Fires and Arcane Saints. So it stands to reason that Italian garage punk group The Barbacans should be another awesome addition to their lineup. And if their Douban is anything to go by, they should be a fun night. Lace up your Converse and get ready to do a little indie headbanging, because this band will have the crowd thrashing. They’re playing twice in Beijing this weekend, but the show at Temple has a better opener — Perpetual Motion Machine, who I saw for the first time at the Friend or Foe show and was thoroughly impressed (and were nothing like the other openers, Deadly Cradle Death and Yan Tiao). Check out their stuff on Douban.
This week seems to be the week of hard rock, with what should be an awesome gig on — of all days — Sunday, at Mao Live, with Flaming Heat, Los Crasher and more for a night of highly entertaining 80s hair metal night, starting at 8:30PM, 50/40RMB. Exit A, if you’re into that sort of thing, are having their first EP launch at Yugong Yishan on Friday, 9PM, 50/30RMB; congrats to them! And New York’s hardcore punk group Backtrack plays at Mao Live on Friday, 8PM, 60/50RMB. And for yet another hard rock night, check out Impact Night at Mao Live with TooKoo, NewTank, Chinatown and more, Saturday 8PM, 70/50RMB.
