Gig of the Week: 1 June — 7 June 2011
Where: D-22
When: Fri 3 June, 22:00PM
How Much: 50RMB; 40RMB students
Who: Die! Die! Die! (NZ), The B-Side Lovers, Wanderlust, Birdstriking (More Info)
Why: The first time I ever bumped into Die! Die! Die! was back in Australia, on a random search for new music. Nothing stuck, but that was years ago, and just on their recorded tracks. Listening to them now (check out their Douban, there’s a few tracks for download there), and with many more gigs under my belt, I can see how the music will work at D-22, and considering the local company they’ve got I can’t wait to see the show. The B-Side Lovers should be good, as I haven’t seen Atom and Zo outside of Hedgehog for a while. I haven’t seen Wanderlust or Birdstriking yet, but I’ve seen enough videos on pangbianr to feel like I know them both quite well. It should be a great show, and some long overdue exposure to English language music that I am sorely behind on.
If you can’t make it out to that, there’s plenty more where that came from! Yang Meng of Chunqiu fame is hitting Jiangjinjiu on Friday to debut his new solo album, 9:30, 30RMB; Pet Conspiracy is also launching their long-awaited first album at Mao Livehouse, Sat @ 9PM, 100/80RMB; and finally, Korean & Japanese experimental duo (((10))) is out and about this weekend, catch them Saturday at D-22, with a great local lineup 10PM, 50/40RMB, Sunday at Hot Cat Club for a more intimate show, 8:30PM, 30RMB, or next Tuesday at D-22’s Zoomin’ Night, 9PM, 30/20RMB.
