Gig of the Week: 12 May 2010 — 19 May 2010
Where: D-22
When: Fri 14 May, 10.00PM
How Much: 40RMB; 30RMB students
Who: Booji, Duck Fight Goose, Soviet Pop, The Offset: Spectacles (More Info)
Why: Since my last experience seeing Shanghai bands in Beijing was such a positive one, I’m going to recommend this gig once again because of what I’ve read over at kungfuology. I caught part of Booji’s last year at the Modern Sky Festival (the one nobody went to because all the foreign acts got banned), and while they were a little on the experimental side, I can see them working on a smaller stage. Duck Fight Goose promise to be an interesting act as well, on the psychedelic side of experimental electronic music. They should definitely be a good live show. They’re teamed up with Soviet Pop and The Offset: Spectacles, both of which are the experimental offshoots of celebrated bands Carsick Cars (Soviet Pop) and My Little Airport (The Offset: Spectacles). They’ve both been named as acts to watch out for, so catch them now.
Runner up gigs abound this week! Candy Monster, Steely Heart +more @ Dos Kolegas, Sat 10PM, 40RMB; Zhou Yunpeng @ Jianghu, Thu 9PM, 60/50RMB; and if Mao opens up this week, Lonely China Day @ Mao, Sun @ 9.30PM, 79.90RMB.
