Gig of the Week: 25 Nov – 01 Dec 2013
Winter is here, whether we like it or not. Which makes it easier to pick gigs to go to, you just have to think what is really worth changing out of the onesie, stepping away from the heater, trying to find that missing glove …
So this week it’s one show I think is worth heading out the door for each night, just pick the day you’re willing to fight the wind and go!
It’s been a while since we’ve had an international post rock band in town (hint, hint, promotors, more please?) Efterklang are cited amongst the likes of Sigur Ros, and who doesn’t love Sigur Ros? They’re into movie soundtracks and are described as “fantastic, grandiose, and full of dramatic tension”. This show is part of the Modern Sky music festival, along with Tegan & Sara, The Cardigans and a few others. Oh, and local kids Glow Curve are opening, if you haven’t seen them recently you should, some good new stuff coming out from them.
If Thursday’s a little cold for you, try Friday or Saturday’s shows:
Mac Demarco - Fri Nov 29 @ 9pm, RMB80
Splitworks are raving about this Canadian lo-fi kid and promising a ‘wildly unhinged live performance”.
Rolling Bowling - Sat Nov 30 @ 9pm, RMB50
Beijing’s best rockabilly band are releasing their album, with help from street punk kids Gum Bleed and The Beijing Beatles, how’s that for a diverse lineup, something for everyone there.
